Need suggestions before I take it in for a set up. Was thinking of using a 125 set and dropping the 50. Will that work?

I think the 125 would like the C but the other three would be too heavy. 50-70-90-115 or so is where I would start off the top of my head.

    I like .125 .085 .065 .045 or .130 .090 .070 .050.

Bassstringsonline.com will let you put together your own set of strings from a large number of brands and types. No need to buy a fiver set and throw one out, and he is quick so you could have them and get them installed and setup in no time.

Not as singles, I don't think Fender does singles at all.

And it also looks like Fender doesn't have make any roundwound 90s, and 50s and 70s in nickel plated but not stainless steel. You very well might have to try another brand. Which Fender string do you like, we could maybe recommend something similar.

Sounds good, if I recall you play with a pick and you hit the strings hard, so this set is similar but comes with a bigger B string that's tapered.

Would have to re-set the saddle height for the B string: http://www.bassstringsonline.com/Fe...Bass-Strings--5-String-Set-8250-5M_p_849.html

Depends if you like tapered strings or not though.

Cool. As I get better I'm not hitting it too hard anymore and playing with fingers too, well unless I'm learning maiden!

  14. I played a VM Jazz in drop C whole step for a long time back when I played metal, and I used old recipe Fender 9050ml flats, I believe the gauges were .45-.95. Not your standard setup, but the added tension being flats helped to hold down on fret noise. Lots of punch without upsetting the really sensitive neck...
