Drop Dead Gorgeous Jazz

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by SolarMan, Jul 31, 2012.

  1. Man-O-Man. I wish I had never seen this. I have GAS like never before...but this one is too expensive to pop without a spousal discussion.

I was gonna' keep it "secret" until I could afford it but heck - it's at SweetWater and probably half of youns here have seen it already.

I fell in love with the neck - look at all the different pics. Beautiful Birds Eye Maple.

What I love is the bound and blocked neck, and the aged vintage white.

It looks like this thing has been around for a while because it is the lowest price on any Custom Shop Jazz IV at S.W. - about 50% of "MSRP"

I think that maybe the reasons that it isn't moving are:

    1) Aged vintage white paint is simply light yellow paint when the bass looks mint and brand new. If the bass were a relic the paint would be perfect.

    2) Light Rosewood fingerboard looks out of time and place on a "Vintage" style bass. Real vintage would be dark rosewood.

    3) Medium-Jumbo frets. C'mon man! Mandolin frets please.

    4) BassLines pickups. Ok, nice pups, but give me some 60's CS pups please.

    5) Active electronics. Probably why I won't do whatever it takes to own it.

    6) Badass III bridge. Just looks wrong.

However, I can't stop look at it and dreaming of owning her.

I'm hoping one of you guys buy it and take me out of my misery!

ps: To see the entire spread of pron --- just google "CZ517566" (yup, I have the serial number memorized).

Enjoy, and please give your thoughts!

That is a beautiful bass. I'd have a problem with the bridge though.

Thanks for spreading the misery... that is absolutely stunning. If I had that kind of cash I'd be in trouble too!

That's very, very beautiful. I coudn't stand MY bridal argument, so I'm lucky not to live in USA.
Keepin' on dreaming: ok, there's a lot of "wrong" things, but who cares? I like it anyway. Just one thing (what will the Purists think?): on aged white, there MUST be a tort pg...

Divorce the spouse, buy the bass, and change out the electronics and bridge.

Why in God's name would you spend $2750 only to change out the bridge and electronics??

You knocked everything but the birdseye neck wood. Why not go to Warmoth or Carvin and spend roughly $300 and get a custom birdseye neck with dark rosewood? And get everything else you want!

For that kind of money the side jack situation kind of kills it for me. It's an interesting, if not odd combination of "vintage" and "modern" which almost ends-up reading, "parts bass", IMO anyway. That being said it will probably be worth a fortune in 30 years!

Screams "parts bass". Having said that, it is gorgeous.

Needs a bem fretboard and cream pu covers. Why the h8 for the side mount jack? Stunning otherwise...

Not hating on the side mount jack, it's just not what I'd expect to see on a blocked CS Jazz in that trim.

Spousal discussion = "Hon, I'm buying a new bass, but don't worry - I'll take you out to dinner this weekend."

    You can do it!
