    hello

I was wondering how I can create a deep dub sound .
Can this be done by some changes in my setup or is it technique ?

I've been a reggae player for years, and I love that deep dub sound. First of all, flatwounds make a huge difference. Right hand position makes a big difference. I play way up on the end of the fingerboard, which is about where an upright player plucks the strings. I'm not sure how other reggae bassists set up their basses, but I have a medium action. I like to dig in a bit, but many reggae players play very lightly.

My own take on the reggae sound comes from a home-made semi-hollow 5-string fretless with a big body with two passive soapbar humbuckers. I've played only fretless for reggae (and everything else) for about twenty years.

If you get a chance check out the BassPOD cos one of the presets on there is called SubDub and it has huge low-end without losing a lot of definition and sounding muddy. I play with it live and it shakes the ground baby!
