I have a jazz with an Audere pre in it, the JZ3. If I want to change the pickups, can I just cut out the old pickups at the pickup cavity, and then tie the new pickups into the existing wires coming from the control cavity? If I don't have to, I don't want to mess with anything related to the pre because there's almost no room in there.
You could. But with leads cut too short you've pretty much destroyed the resale value of the pickups. And you'd still need to solder the leads and either shrinkwrap or tape the joins. Easier to just unscrew the leads at the preamp IMO.
