I've been playing bass for a good while.. I know a good deal of songs, and alot of the technical stuff. But what i'm not up on, is terminology. Could someone please tell me what "action" is? I have kind of a preconcieved notion of what it is, but i'll ask to make sure, rather than try to fake it...

    any help is appreciated... thanks

  2. Action is the distance between the string and the fretboard. Low action (strings closer to the fretboard) is good for moving fast and slapping, and high action (strings farther from the fretboard) is good for aggressive playing, but you have to work harder.

thanks alot. My idea was almost right; in thinking it was the distance of the strings from the pickups, or the body itself. Now i can feign intelligence!
