Dynamics and speed

Discussion in 'Technique [BG]' started by Marks Man, Dec 26, 2002.

  1. So... For background, I'm originally a pianist who played bass with a pick and then switched to fingers. I noticed that when I play fast/loud, I have this bad tendency to pull up on the strings with my picking hand, which makes this really annoying slap sound against the fretboard. I'm told that this is a rare bad habit, but has anybody else dealt with this? I think the only thing I can really do is just notice it and try to purge it from my system.
  2. the best way to deal with any technique defficiency is going down with your tempo to ~30 bpm and then doing everything as good as possible , rythmically and in this case more impoprtantly technically. As soon as it is perfect (or at least close enough) go up in speed by about 10 bpm and practice again go back to 30 practice again go up 20 bpm, go back to 30 etc. until you reach the speed you want to reach. And never forget to pay attention to your technique and rythm
