E string clipping

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by I-play-bass, Mar 27, 2013.

  1. I've got a 73 precision bass that I have a bit of a problem with.

When I pluck the E with any sort of force, it clips and sounds unclear. All fretted notes are perfect and it is not a problem with any ther string.

It's not a problem when I play pick style, and it's really frustrating.

I've tried lowering the pickup on the e-side, but if I go too low I have nowhere to anchor my thumb.

    Any suggestions?

Provided there's no set-up/string height problem it sounds like a technique thing. Post a pic of the E string side of your pickup showing how high it is above the pickguard.

  3. I'll take photos later, but this problem is isolated to the Preision, not a problem on my Stingray, RD or Squier precision. :(
