ear piercing click Ebmm stingray 5hh

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by wpc1996, Feb 18, 2016.

  1. Okay so since it's a pick up issue question I figured this is the best place, if not my bad.

So when I use both pick ups on my stingray there is a ear piercing click when I play, and on the inner coils it does it a bit not near as bad.

But it only does it with my hartke rig, but through my dad's Ashdown, a cheap fender and pretty much every other amp ive played through it doesn't do it.

Any one have a idea of why?

Do you wear a watch on your right wrist? If so and it is close to a pickup or the pickups are pretty hot they will pick up the click of the coil in the watch as it pulses to move the second hand. Just a guess.

Make sure your strings aren't hitting the pickups when you play.
That happens on my 54P reissue if I mute too aggressively with my right hand.

  4. dont wear a watch, and its not hitting the pickup.

I was talking to the guys at my local dealer and i plugged it into the amp they have there, and it was doing it a bit. The only guess they could come up with is there's something with the aluminum cones or something thats not agreeing with the pick ups or something thats not wanting to work together

ive been messing with the eq, and I basically have to turn off the bright switch, and roll the treble back a good ways, for it to not be as noticeable but its still there only when I'm using both pick ups tho.

tomorrow I'm just going to plug the head in some peavey cabs I have and a ashdown amp into the hydrive and figure out if its the cab or the head or both

check for tweeters vs no tweeters in the cabs you're using.

look behind your hartke, you should have a switch to turn the tweeter off. (FWIW i hate them too.)

  6. I thought of that when I was out earlier, got home checked the tweeter it was off, but with the tweeter on it makes this noise go from 10 to a 1000 real fast

Can you record it? Listening to even a very bad recording of it would really help narrow it down.

  8. If I get a chance tomorrow I will,
but I plugged the head into some peavey headliner cabs I have and it wasn't there so it's the cab, but now for some reason after like a month or so the hydrive cab as the click and its at about the same level as it was at the store, so it's not ear piercing anymore, but it's still noticeable.
