Today my brother sent me this photo of my first talent show back in the day. Rockin an SG bass (copy). This is the earliest pic that I have of me playing bass. What the earliest pic that you have playing the bass?

me.jpg Didn't start playing out until after a 5 year Navy stint. This is probably the oldest pic of me on bass. I do have a pic from my Navy days playing guitar...

Wow! Cool bass! What is that?
  8. Thanks.
Kingston - sold in record stores like Musicland back in the day.
I have yet to ever see one configured exactly like it since.
I think it may have been a parts build at the factory.

1982. College band with no set name, playing a George Washington Birthday party, so we called ourselves Wooden Teeth that day. Playing in a damp basement, we were getting shocks, and so ended up standing on rubber car floor mats. Wish I still had that Ric, but was stolen in 1989.

Back in about '88 at university in my first proper, gigging band - a folk rock group called Tintagel.

One of my first gigs on bass, 1978. I'd probably been playing for about 6 months. This was a private party in The Land East of El Lay. We called ourselves Nickelsworth. Hey, it was the 70's...

Wow! Amazing story. I still wish I had my first bass too. Not sure, maybe my parents sold it to buy me my next bass.

Unfortunately I don't. I don't even recall what happened to it. I think I gave it away, but can't really remember.

Music with Charlie, Gary, and LeRoi 1976.jpg High school party. I was the rocker. The other three made music their livelihood. I think that was a pre-CBS Precision I was playing. Not a big deal at the time.

By the time I owned this Univox it would have been early 1970.
I’d been playing for a year or so.
Some time shortly after this picture was taken, playing a party at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, I learned to trim my strings!
    I’m hoping I didn’t put anyone’s eye out...

I don't have a copy of the pic, but my parents have a photo in a framed collage on their den wall of 13-year-old me playing with a band the very first day that I ever picked up a bass. Basically I was a guitarist, but the bass player in my band was a better guitarist, so for one tune that I kept biffing she said "Here, you play the bass, let me show you how that guitar part should go." And it was like a lightbulb went off, and I instantly fell in love with the bass that day. You can really see a sort of unabashed joy & wonder on my face in that pic

...not like now, where all the shots of me performing showcase my surly expression of pure disgust.

I gotta get a copy of that old pic from Mom & Dad.
