I have a RI '62 Jazz and and just bought a RI '62 Precision. Both came in brown G&G "Vintage" cases. I don't recall seeing brown cases back then. A friend of mine bought a new Fender Precision that I believe he bought in '64 or '65, but it came in a black case. Anyone remember brown cases back then? Just curious. Thanks.

The brown cases sound better and have better sustain. IMHO, YMMV

Pretty clever on Fender's part. I did hear, once, that they were doing extensive sound tests in the Bell Labs sound chamber.

Looks like the "clay dot/pg screws" sarcasm is crossing into other threads.

My '60 came with a brown case. Darker brown at the ends and gold plush interior.

Sadly, I no longer have it. Years of road abuse:crying:

My '83 V'62 RI P came in a tweed case, orange interior.

They switched from Brown to Black cases in late 64.

Brown was used in the early 60's. N.B., not tweed, but chocolate milkshake BROWN. I saw them many many times back then. creeeeak....:ninja: :D

My '63 Jazz has a light tan case w/black ends. It's beat to **** but is definitely original.

Thanks guys. I guess I just didn't remember the brown ones. I expected my RI to come in a Tweed case. Thanks for the good info.

Both my RI Jazz and RI P came in brown with the darker ends; although, the online places say Tweed. I got mine from Musician's Friend. I don't like buying sight unseen, but no one seems to stock it (the P). I lucked out, though. The 3TS is just the shading I wanted and the action was only a tad high; relief is perfect, so far. I bought some TI's to replace the rounds, but the sound is pretty good with them.

The case for my '63 P is the same.

The 63 P-bass I had oh so long ago came with a brown
Fender case when I bought it used. I was the second owner of that bass.
