How can you tell if a precbs bass is ash or alder particularly when custom color? What percentage were alder? Is alder favored?

    Thanks

  2. very early 1960 Jazzes had ash for the blonde AND sunburst finish (and since they're semi-transparant finishes, you can tell by the grain), after that it's alder for everything, except blonde (exceptions always possible, but they are rare).
