Early 80s 2 band preamps - Stingray and Fender similar??

I'm trying to find a similar sounding 2 band preamp to my old 81 Precision Special, and wondered whether the 2 band Stingray EQ would be similar? I've got the impression that the active Precision was Fender's 'answer' to the Stingray??

    Anyone know?

Not really. When Fender came out with the Precision Specail (I was a Fender dealer) the constant mantra from our sales rep at NAMM (he knew I had an older StingRay) was that the Fender had like 12 dB boost/cut while "Brand M" had less. And the original Leo Fender pre-amp in the 'Ray was supposedly boost only on the treble- I'm not sure about that as I've seen a lot of discussion on the net about whether that pre-amp was boost/cut on both, boost-only on both, or boost only on treble with a boost/cut bass.

Thanks for that, do you know if any of the aftermarket preamps are similar to the Fender's?
