I may be last to the party, but I started listening to Don Blackman’s album a few years back. The one from ‘82 with Barry Johnson and Lenny White and Don is throwing down on synth bass.

Fast forward to today. My friend showed me Bernard White - ‘Nard. It was like a shot in the arm! Marcus Miller, Barry Johnson, Don Blackman, Dennis Chambers, Luther Vandross. Very similar vein as ‘Don Blackman’.

Here’s what I hope to find out: What else is out there for early 80’s studio funk coming out of NYC?

  2. Try Konk (not funky-fusion like Don Blackman or Bernard Wright, but a great groove).
