I'm looking for a rewally nice warm, tube amp meets Pbass tone, but i'm very used to active basses,(my main axe is a sadowsky J..)

wondering if this'll give me a nice warm, vintage-y John clean tone..a la' John Deacon..
    or should I stay passive?
how's the tone on these? and the preamp?
also thinking Sadowsky Hybrid or Glaub,I like a 1.5" nut width..

    anyone own one of these?
care to give me a brief review of 'em?
    thanx!;)

I stay passive with my P Special. I find the preamp too sizzly and accentuated the clickety spikes in the upper midrange bark...and that's not what you want in a John Deacon tone characteristic.
If I wanted to, I can keep the treble knob flat to keep the spikeyness away, and boost the bass knob, but then to me it gets away from the classic P growl sound.

But for 'warmer' P sounds I reach for an alder body P, rather than an ash body P.
