SOLD Earth Sound Research G-2000 Super Guitar All Tube Head

Selling a vintage Earth Sound Research G-2000 Super Guitar all-tube head. This is kind of an odd beast, but it sounds great and is Loud. Capital-L Loud. Call-the-cops Loud. Don't say I didn't warn you.

So the story goes that in the olden days there was an amp company called Kustom. Kustom was based in Chanute, KS and run by a dude named Bud Ross. They made transistor amps at a time when those were new and expensive. These Kustom amps were covered in "tuck and roll" Naugahyde, which made them look distinctive and also provided bands a nice extra seat in the band van.

A couple of years later, a company called Plush started making similar looking "tuck and roll" amps in New York. They moved to California later on and finally went out of business in about '74. The next part of the story is that (just possibly) a company called Earth Sound Research bought the remaining stock of Plush parts and sold these amps for a few years. Is that part true? Nobody knows. But the Earth and Plush amps are remarkably similar. Plush are more tuck and roll, while Earth amps are "tufted," which means they have buttons in the upholstery like the booths at a steakhouse.

This amp is definitely a Fender copy. Think of it as a Twin Reverb or a Dual Showman Reverb head. 4 6L6GC tubes for power, 6 preamp tubes (12AX7 / 12AT7.) It has the full blackface / silverface style channel setup, with volume, treble, middle, and bass plus bright switch for each channel. It also has working tremolo and reverb. The trem sounds great but the depth control only works from about halfway up. The reverb works but these amps used a reverb tank built in to the speaker cabinet, so you'll need to find a tank if you want to hear the 'verb. Any standard Fender style tank will work OK.

This amp is essentially the same as the "Super Bass B-2000" model, but with the addition of the trem and reverb. So while it is technically a guitar amp it has PLENTY of low end.

Is this loud enough to gig with? Yes. Through a halfway efficient speaker cabinet this amp can deliver the old-school thump in spades. It's essentially a Dual Showman or Bassman 100 but with trem and reverb. It probably won't keep up with a loud metal drummer and still stay clean, but through two EV15L's it can overpower two guitarists and a drummer on a club stage.

STILL not loud enough? Use the Slave Output to send that nice all-tube tone to another power amp. NOW YOU ARE LOUD.

It's been gone through and there are no real issues. It's LOUD. It looks cool, but the Naugahyde is torn up at the corners. A little black duct tape will fix that right up, and then you have a vintage '70s tube amp loud enough to play a gig with for short money.
