Hi everyone, I'm a new bass player, well at least trying to learn to be one. Anyhow sorry if this has been discussed before but, is it easier to learn bass on a 4 or 5 string? Or perhaps there is no difference? Thanx for your answers, and sorry for the newbie question.

If you're just beginning it makes no difference, so start on the instrument you want to play. Do a search for more info. Good luck!

I learned on a 5 String and play it just fine, its nice having a low "B" string when you need the low notes.

My first bass was a 5 as well. I was a guitar player first, so there was the initial challenge of getting used to the additional low string. But I had only played guitar for a year, so it really wasn't that bad of a transition.
