  1. I have an audition this week, and i'm a little rusty from the summer.

    Just correct me if i'm wrong.

    Minor scale - 3rd's flat
    Dominent - 7ths flat
    half diminished - 3rd and 5th are flat.
    full diminished - 3rd, 5th, 7th are flat.


    Right?
     
  2. If your point of reference is the major scale, you are correct only about the dominant (Mixolydian) scale. There are many types of minor scales, so you have to be more specific, but the three most common are as follows:

    Pure minor: 1,2,b3,4,5,b6,b7
    (AKA natural minor and Aeolian mode)
    Melodic minor: 1,2,b3,4,5,6,7 (ascending)
    1,2,b3,4,5,b6,b7 (descending)
    Harmonic minor: 1,2,b3,4,5,b6,7

    These do each have a flat 3rd, but the 6ths and 7ths are what differentiates one from the next.

    Are you talking about diminished scales or chords? Here is the scoop:

    Half-diminished chord: 1,b3,b5,b7
    Fully diminished chord: 1,b3,b5,bb7 (that's a diminished 7 interval, which is the same as a double-flat 7th, which is also the enharmonic equivalent of a major 6th. So that's a whole step lower than the major 7th.

    A mode for a half-diminished chord is Locrian, which is: 1,b2,b3,4,b5,b6,b7.
    For a fully diminished chord, you would use the whole-half diminished scale which is 8 notes and symmetrical: 1,2,b3,4,b5,#5,6,7
