This horrible hissy thing breaks up/farts out when any decent signal is put through it... and now I'm hearing the radio out of it... is there a way I can disconnect this thing through the port hole? I don't really want to open it up as it's not totally mine and I am likely to screw something up.
its easy to disconnect it. just get a flathead screwdriver pry off the grill at the corners. then remove the 4 screws in the tweeter and pull out the connecters and your set. I hated the ba115 when I had it. And the fact that when it blew ampeg isnt clear about their warranty. I called they said i wasnt covered it happed after having it for 3 and a half years. And the speaker blew. they said speakers are covered for one year and electronics for 5 years. The tag said 5 year warranty. I like my bfm omni 210 cab. That i built with plans off his website. Its punchy and has lots of low end. You can build one for about 50 dollars for plywood and glue and stuff and then depending on your speakers it can be about 100 and up. I got eminence basslite s2010s for 130$ for the pair.
yeah I am curious to hear a BFM cab, however this BA115 is just a practice amp for my bedroom. Thanks for the instructions for removing the tweet.
There's a faster way to disconnect the tweeter. Crank the amp up all the way, turn the treble up all the way and play a guitar through it for a short while at very close range (make sure to get some good feedback). Besides, this way is a lot more fun!
If you are hearing radio stations out of it it's not the horns fault. That would be your instrument cable or the amp head! (And I don't like the BA115, but find your causual fault before grabbing the wire cutters).
No wire cutters required, this was easier than I imagined. I do have yet another gripe with thing (it is on loan from my guitarist so I can't really complain), but one of the wire connecting the tweeter had absolutely no slack so by the time I pulled the tweeter itself far enough out to disconnect it, one of the wires had already pulled itself off. So even if I were to replace the tweeter with something that doesn't hiss or break up at volume, I would have to get some sort of intermediate male to female wire just to wire it up the same way I disconnected it! What garbage design...
