Ive seen marks on John F. from rhcp guitars but nothing like that. It was from his heroin times and it would just eat away the finish, I dont know about a flamed top

The flame is "foto flame" film, and wold rub off very quickly once the clear coat was breached.

Yup... thiner finish than most fenders, then right through the plastic film that created the photo of the fotoflame...it's still quite a wear mark. That guy must have practiced a lot.

Nice how there's no mention of the fotoflame though.
  8. It looks too even to be a result of playing wear to me...

methinks someone royally messed up while buffing away a true finish imperfection. :)

too even? I thought that if it was eradic it would mean it wasnt from playing. If you do the same things over and over and over again, the wear is going to be even.
  12. What I mean is, the border is too uniform. There should be more wear in the centre of the arm-wear groove. And as others pointed out, there should be more wear elsewhere!

  14. Playing with what?!?, his power tools???

Interesting info from you guys about how the finish is done and can be "undone". I guess everything is a learning experience. That's why I come here...

I see that "tony3050" is pretty hot to get his hand on it. :eyebrow:

totally original p bass with emgs, bad ass bridge , a defretted neck and a flame top...

that wear looks like an attempt to reveal the natural wood from under the burst, then THAT showed up. :bag:
