Damn right it's a scam. '54 P basses had slab bodies, this one has a contour.

 

Do A search on Rickenbacker 4001's on ebay it says from Japan

 

'54 was the first year they had that one contour. That's why Lull and others replicate that year, rather than a '51.

 

here's some advice: if you have to ask whether or not something is a scam, it's a scam

 

Those are legit, I think.

 

I was truly hoping the emoji at the end of the post would advertise the fact that it was sent in jest.

 

Back in the early 70's It was rumored that Japan was buying up certain guitars and basses to copy them. "Pan American and Kay are names that come to mind. Some were actually fairly good. The guitarist in the band I was in at the time had a Les Paul copy. He loved it. The bolt on neck was a give away but other than that you could barely tell unless you knew what to look at.
I had a early Epiphone short scale ET280 bass. Though it was not a copy of anything, I liked it. I still have that bass.
