Dear fellow bass players, I am in the need for a new bass amp. I was looking on the websites of the musicshops near my area and I couldn't stop looking away from the EBS classic 500 and the matching cl 210. Has anyone ever tried one of these? I am really interested. And if you have other great amp suggestions, please speak and why! My budget lies around 1600 max. It should cover around medium gigs and rehearsals, and I'm not a real fan of ampeg but please if you think they are the best speak because I need a new amp! And I live in Europe so some amps are more expensive here.
Can't, I am also going to use it for home practice. Later I'm going to expand the cabinet but for now max 210
For that price, you could get a much better small cab. Barefaced bass or greenboy. If your looking at low volume needs, then there is no reason to spend so much on a practice amp.
No no it's for everything, gigging, performing. So it also needs to perform well at low volumes, but please has anyone an idea on how it sounds? The classic 500, and give amp suggestions for the price! I would really appreciate it. And barefaced and greenboy is way to expensive for a rig of 1600 euros in total. No matter what cabinet. A high class amp is more important to me then a cabinet.
1. A 210 isnt what I would consider enough for gigs. 2. I would also tell you that the amp is way less important than the cab. If you have 1600 (euros?) to spend, you can get an amazing cab, and still have PLENTY of cash left over to buy an amazing amp. YMMV, and it is your money.
Already tried the gallien Krueger, a little too much power in my opinion, never tried the barefaced or the greenboy. But I like an old school vibe appearance. I know the classic 500 is SS but I have a weakness for hybrids.
Ampeg PF-800 then. (It has a volume knob. I wont tell anyone you play it set low. ) The barefaced and greenboy cabs will have no trouble with that much power. They will give you a small, portable, and very gigable set up.
Sorry CL400Peavey, but I could probably pull off 90% of my gigs with a 210 If the CL210 is ~ 1/2 of my Classic 410, it'll be a pretty great cab. My EBS rig has been flawless for a couple years now, unlike the Ampegs teething issues. CAN you get a bigger rig for 1600 Euro? Likely. Can you get a BETTER rig? Maybe? Most EBS gear tends towards the hi-fi, but the Classic series goes for a rounder, warmer vibe. I'd wager if you like the sound of the Classic 500, you should get that over the 650.
It would be 6db less than your 410. So like taking the amount of power you have, then using a quarter of what is on tap.
So about as loud as a wound up B15, but still cleanish, which is fine for what I do I'm not saying the engineered cabs are a bad choice, I'm saving up for a Dually myself, but the reality of MY situation is that a good ported 210 would be plenty loud enough for the indie rock/country/folk music I tend to play at small bar volumes. Would I use it for harder edged rock? Hell no
But I have never tried the classic 500 that is the problem. And I can't try it anywhere! Have you tried it? How is it?
I have not. I bought the Classic t90 head sight unseen because it had the feature set I wanted (moderate wattage, tube, Filter EQ) and have been very pleased with it. But its a totally different animal to the 500. Where are you? Is Ashdown an option?
Yes anything is an option! I like an old cool vibe. But I want a warm "snap" with definition. Not stingray definition. But i want soms oomph and warmth. So what ashdown do you recommend. The ctm100? I had my eye also on that one.
You have the T90 right? I am taking the CTM100 into concideration but I don't know if it will be loud enough for my gigs. How well does the T90 handle in medium-sized gigs, since it compares in power to the CTM100
