  1. I don't want to start a flame war here, but did anyone try one of Ed's basses at the NAMM show? If so how were they?

I don't mean any disrespect but I think this is a dead horse, I really don't think you are ever going to get a straight answer here on the Lowrider, just the comments on the Lowlife.

Please ........ make it stop ........ :bag:

  7. Just do a search on this or ANY music forum and type in "roman" or "ed roman" or "ed AND roman".

  8. Yeah I know, mentioning the name Ed Roman is asking for trouble. I started this thread, against my better judgement, hoping that maybe one person out there actually tried one. I've seen previous threads asking about the Lowriders descend into mud slinging. Maybe I'd get a better response if I'd entitled it "Is Ed Roman a prick?"

  9. Wow. I did a search and got my answers.

    Great guy! :scowl:

Hey, I've wondered about the Lowrider basses myself and even did a post a looong time ago and never got anywhere, same with other threads of a similar nature. Trust me, you won't get anywhere, just wait and read the posts that come in.

Well, you could search the BBB for info on Ed Roman's two businesses. He's listed in both CT and NV. Here's what the BBB has to say about his CT business:

Here's what the BBB has to say about Ed's Nevada business:

Last time I checked the BBB, Ed wasn't listed as a business owner in NV so I'm surprised at the favorable rating with the NV BBB. The CT BBB listing has been unfavorable for over a year at least.

I do think that it is a shame that the guys personality overrides any constructive commentary about the instruments that he sells but I have to agree with what Bryan said about Ed. In fact I agreed so much I put it in my sig.

I'm going to Las Vegas tonight, so I checked out his web site to see what he has, thinking to stop by and see his store while I'm there. He really says bad things about Lakland and other basses that are well liked. Maybe he is just opinionated, but I would have to disagree with some of his opinions. I do think I'll stop by and try a lowrider bass just to see if they are any good.

I go to Vegas at least once a year and stop by his store when I get the chance. Ed Roman is NOT a likeable sort of fellow. That's the high and low of it. But I do enjoy going by the store and looking around. It is quite a place. Just my two cents worth. I mean shoot, why not? If nothing else, it's a welcome break from the casinos......

  15. I am looking forward to hearing this review! :meh:

Well, if I manage to play one without any hassle I'll let you know. From reading about Ed Roman I think the chances of that are slim...

  17. C'mon Showdown, you gotta do it for us! We're counting on you.

Tell Ed that the guys at Talk Bass said Hi!

I played a couple of Lowriders in April of this year. It felt like a GC-setup jazz bass (read not well set up). All the hype from the sellers of those basses is, IMO, worthless. I play/own Beneventes, Nordstrands, etc....it is not even in the same zip code as my Nordstrand-set up SX. No kidding. Poor setup, poor fit and finish, crooked tuners on BOTH basses, and the sound was average, at best.

I not trying to be a jerk here, but I feel that they really are not worth their asking price.

  19. Finally, an opinion on the instrument! Thanks Jacochops. So they're not comparable to a Sadowsky? (I think that's what Ed compared them with on his site.)

If his are so great, then a comparrison to Sadowsky wouldn't be nessassary now would it?!?!?!
Ferrari doesn't compare with say Kia, but I bet Kia would compare with Ferrari (why I wouldn't know).

I talked to Ed before. The second time( ) I did, thinking maybe I caught him on a bad day the first time. I was wrong. Thats just how he is.
Don't care if you've been playing 100 years, your still wrong to him.

But I bet he sells one hell of a Kia that performs like a Ferrari!!
