Has anyone bought anything from Ed Roman? I am going to Vegas in a couple of weeks and wanted to check out his store. I've seen a few comments here and there, and I even spoke with a couple of retailers at a guitar show here who had nothing good to say about that operation. The store seems to have an outstanding selection and reasobale prices, but as I want to avoid buying a high ticket item a glorified GC, I was hoping some could shed some light.

a lot of mixed reviews follow ed roman. i have never dealt with him or his operation but there is plenty of web gossipp about him.
  4. I hear he's a crazy man.

That said, if you want a certain bass...the man probably has 6 of them at least.

+1. The many things I've read after an extensive search made me very uncomfortable about dealing with him. Some people had positive things to say, but I don't think I've ever read as consistently negative things about someone as I've read about him. If you do go, be careful!
  6. I was in Vegas last month and went to the store
    for the first time.

The place is massive to say the least. It is the largest
guitar store in the world... Thousands of Guitars and Basses

Personally, I think they are more geared towards
the Rock scene in terms of their inventory.

When I was there I did not talk to Ed but I saw him
in the back office working on the computer.

They have several Hundred Basses... Yes Several Hundred..
(this is about half of them) There is another wall of Basses
    on the other side...

The vibe was pretty low key and you could pickup and
play whatever you wanted. The higher end stuff
is marked please ask for assistance...

even want to go near it! I would'nt say they had several hundred basses...more like a hundred maybe.OH YEAH! they had a 4 string Ibanez eeda900 made out of walnut and neckthrough construction(which I got to try out)Get this! It was also signed by bill clinton! (No not george clinton.I made sure)....All in all a pretty cool store, but not THAT big of a deal...

I play both guitar and Bass. I'm a big PRS fan. His rants have turned me off big time.
That being said, he has to be doing something right to have that large a store and established at that.

sounds to me like a bob's discount furniture for guitars. cuz there's this guy in massachusetts named Bob, and he's got the most obnoxious advertisements ever, but his furniture store is HUGE and he's a multi-millionaire. (too bad all his stuff kinda sucks) this ed roman guy kinda sounds like that.

Oh my gawd...You must know Jordan's Furniture then! I lived in Boston for 10 years, and their ads still ring in my ears..."Left on Spit Brook, right on Daniel Webstah!"

He recently had some falling out with G&L and all of the sudden their products went from "great" to "trash". I can't respect a guy who will do that.
  15. I know what you're talking about. I hate bobs just for those damn commercials.
If I were in Vegas, that'd definitely be one of the places I'd like to go. I'm underage and couldn't go into a casino if i wanted to, but I don't and I really don't like that whole Vegas scene.
To each his own, I guess.

Check the Ernie Ball Forum. There was a recent legal case invovling Ed repainting OLP's and selling them as EBs. Typical Ed Roman.

He appears to be highly opinionated as to whats good and whats not.
  18. I just did my research not long ago since I was thinking of purchasing from him....he's also gutted and replaced parts here and there and sold them as originals and then even still have parts hanging around not being used...:scowl:

I din't know he used to own the East Coast Music mall in Danbury, CT. That was a great old store, set up in like an auditorium, guitars and basses covering the walls, good amp selection, etc.. I bought a MM Sterling there awhile back.

Apparently he sold it when he moved to lost wages, and now East Coast Music Mall is in some converted house on US 7 in New Milford, and it is CRAP, total crap compared to what it used to be. That may be generally reflective of the market there now, but I don't know.

I think most of the guitars and basses he touts on his site are UGLY.
