I've always played out of an Ampeg V4b. Served me well for many years, but lately I've had an itch to get a proper, modern rig. I'm going to buy an Eden wt550, because I like the tone and options. I plan to pair that with a 410 cab. My question is, what are the differences in these 410 cab models, other than price, and wattage handling?

    E410XST
    EX410
Are the EX models still made of plywood or do they use cheap mdf? Do they all use similar speakers, or are the EX speakers cheap? How big of a role do the added ports play?
    Thanks for your help.

  2. I play an Eden head and prefer the older SWR Goliath cabs that were made by Eden back in the 80's. (Goliath I or II's) They go pretty cheap used and IMO nail that Eden sound. I use 2, 210's instead of a 410 ( I have a WT800 which is a 2 channel amp, so I run one off of each channel)

When you say pretty cheap, are you thinking under $500?

Also, does anyone have any info of those Eden 410 cabs?

The XST series is reputed to sound warm, smooth...and deep. It's got lots of low end, but a flatter midrange response that is not as pronounced as the XLT series.

The XLT series, by contrast, is known to sound tighter, brighter and punchier, though it does not have the big low end of the XST series. Many players have been known to use an XST cab mated with an equivalent cab from the XLT series (i.e. a 210XST + 210XLT) with good results.

No comment on the EX series...

I'll bet you'll find lots and lots of that information here. All you have to do is conduct a search for it... :eyebrow:

No comment on the EX series because they're no good or because you don't have any experience with them?

Because they're a newer series, and I don't know as much about them. But I have seen a thread or two from players who have used them, and have opinions about them. You might want to look at those.

The XST handles a Low B string really well.
    EX series uses cheaper speakers.
For a 4x10 you can't go wrong with either
    the XLT or XST.

  9. "When you say pretty cheap, are you thinking under $500?"

I paid about $225 a piece for my 210s. Check the classifieds here, there was a 410 for $300 and a 210 for around $225 recently...may still be available.

    1. XST is "D" series (not "E", as listed in the OP), isn't it?

    2. I have searched and asked about the EX series, and not gotten that many answers. Most say they are "good, for the price", but not as good as the D series.

Also, almost all the threads on them are in reference to a 1X10 or 1X12 used at home or coffee house gigs. General consensus is that they sound great at lower volumes, but don't really wail.

That's understandable. But I want to know how well a pair of EX210s will do in a rock setting.

The only XST 410 I see is D series. It's a lot easier to weed through on the web page too, vs the pdf.
