My rig currently consists of a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz and a Mesa D-180 (got rid of my V4-B recently). Being the noob that I am, my question is how would you chain my setup? My pedals will consist of:

    -Boss TU-2 tuner
    -PedalDoctor FX Tangerine Squeeze Compressor
    -Barber LTD (low-distortion pedal)
-Green EHX/Sovtek Big Muff Pi (modded /w true bypass and 9v adapter jack)
-Phaser/Flange type pedal (probably a Moog or EHX Flange Hoax)

    I'm guessing:
bass > tuner > compressor > normal input

distortion > fuzz > phase > effects input

The Mesa D-180 head has an effects input in the back with an effects blend knob. I'm not sure if I should run everything into the normal input or if I should split some of the pedals up and use the effects input in the back. Let me know what you think, thanks!

  2. put the compressor in the effects loop, unless your bass is putting out a lot of noise you really don't need it before the preamp.

I would be inclined to run it
    bass > Muff > Phaser > Comp > Barber > amp input
    and
FX loop out (or any aux out) > tuner

Here's my reasoning: The Muff will be very interactive with your pickups and the volume controls on your bass, so it should be first. You wanted a Jet Phase sound, so the phaser follows the fuzz. The phaser may put out strong volume spikes, so it may be helpful to have the compressor after the phaser. The Barber can be used as a boost to really drive your amp, so you don't want to limit its output with the comp; so the Barber is last before your amp. The Boss tuner may not have the best bypass (it's not necessarily bad though), so I would take it out of your direct-to-amp chain just in case.

That's not the only good arrangement of course, but it's a start.

You might be mixing up compressors and noise suppressors? If anything, comps can amplify noise.
