I've lately gotten into some songs by Martin L Gore, but he does most of his stuff by synth. His cover of Loverman is what interests me the most, lately. I know I could simulate a lot of the sounds on it with my bass if I had the correct effects. Through the song, however, is a really WOOSH-y sound that I know I could do with a volume pedal and...something else. I'm saving for a Zoom 708-II multi-FX at the moment and I'm pretty sure it would do fine. My question is what effects would help simulate the rest of the song? The 708 has the ability to use samples you record with your bass, so the fact there's a lot of things going on at once isn't a problem. I'll have the actual song uploaded in a little while, for now my broweser is being a bitch.
