i didnt personally like it, i really did want to like it, but i just couldnt say it was better than a sansamp...
also i found the comp useless. one little switch??!!
but just my opinion.. i did also only try it in store, didnt use my gear etc...

I give it a thumbs up. I use it all the time. For the price it's got lots of options. But it is limited. The bass and treble only boost and don't cut. The compressor is just a switch and gives a squashed sound but it's not an issue for me and I always keep it on. I know lots of people don't like the distortion but I just dial in a tiny bit for a nice overdrive sound; it helps that you can control the dry bass level. I find it a very transparent pedal compared to the SansAmp.
thats the trend.. i dont get it personally. compression requires at LEAST 4 functions.. threshold, ratio, attack, release. they program all this for you and you dial in a ratio or threshold (depends on which crappy single knob onboard compressor).
i guess some people like to SAY they run a compressor to sound smart, so they just turn it on and leave it there. the one on my hartke is absolutely worthless.
if one wants a simple compressor, get a dbx 160 and call it a day.
There are many great choices for those looking for a preamp-DI pedal, which cover a variety of tonal needs and at several price points. Sansamps, M-80, Microbass 2, Tone Hammer etc etc. Anything short of a fantastic product will not have an easy time acquiring the following each of the aforementioned pedals has. And the saddest thing about the Bass Metaphors is that it COULD have been a fantastic product. But, to my ears at least, anything the Metaphors can do "well enough", another company's similar offering can do "better".
I love the Metaphors, best buy I have made in a while. I love the way its divided up into sections with separate level controls.
The compressor is adjustable with two trim pots. One seems to be pre compressor volume and the other post compressor volume. For squash, turn your precompressor volume up and post down or vice versa for less squash.

I think it's very good, particularly as it's a fair bit cheaper than the competition yet still has that EHX mojo!
+1 I tried to make use of it but whenever I engaged it I was left feeling like I was no worse off disengaged. I liked it at first, but it wore thin pretty quick. I'm glad that some others really like theirs and it makes me believe that you may be in the market for one.
Tried it in a shop. Didn't care for it.

I use it direct with a PA. It sounds polished through the FOH, it's perfect for live use. I have owned MXR DI+, Sansamp Bass DI, Aphex Bass Exciter, Zoom B2, EHX english muffin(I had to a add a passive di), Behiringer BDI21, and I prefer the Metaphors.
I actually liked something about all those interfaces, and I have used them all live. They all have something they do well, and could work for any band situation. I carry the Zoom as a backup, and for mood swings.
Through FOH the Metaphors distortion can be subtle with just a little more growl.
