I was wondering if anybody had some impressions and perhaps even soundclips of an english muff'n in action. I know Jack Lawrence of the raconteurs uses one and I can't get the bass riff of salute your solution out of my head
Yeah, if you do some reading here you'll find we've had a hundred or so threads about it, as well as a number of soundclips in the Wiki (upper left toolbar).
There should be SCs in the Wiki. Considering I put 'em there! I used to own one. Awesome pedal. Thick fuzz, kept the low end. Just get one. You'll love it
Well, I love my Bass-Drive, but I'm just looking for something new. The Hematoma didn't work out. Is the Muff'n too fuzzy to be OD? Because it's going to be a bitch trying to talk the sales guys there that it's worth hooking it up for me.
I would consider the Muff'n to be more in the overdrive to distortion range rather than fuzz. For gritty overdrive, it's quite excellent.
Muff'n's certainly not fuzz, not with the stock tubes, anyway. I haven't tried it with any other tubes.
12AX7s in a Muff'n = Uber-Fuzz. I got mine to make a "shattering glass" sound if I let a note sustain, and I had the treble set to max.....
english muff'n is a fantastic pedal. it can get a warm fuzz to it (nothing crazy or buzz-saw-ish though) with the standard tubes. definitely more of an OD pedal though. it keeps the low end as good as any other OD pedal I've ever come across. only weird thing is the power...12v + the ******** connector. other than that it's a great (and fun) tool.
I currently play a muff'n with 12AX7s in it, and have it set to just break up a little when playing, but if I really dig in it gets a nice heavy overdrive. My gain does not go above 11 though. It is definatly more low gain with the stock 12AT7s. And as said before the power supply is a PITA.
i've not found a satisfying fuzz tone on my 12AX7 muff'n. but it's brilliant as an overdrive with a clean blend. although the 3-band eq should suffice, the clean blend makes it sound more natural IMO the crappy power supply is not just 12V, it's 12V AC
well not that it matters much though... but the detail just makes it seem even more unconventional. cheers
