I'm going to buy the Ibanez BTB 455QM soon, and would like to know if the pick ups are passive/active. I want to buy new pickups when it arrives, because I like EMG's better than the Bartolini's, and Ibanez pick ups. I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to electronics on guitars, so if anyone could help, then that would be great...And if anyone can tell me what model of pick up to use, that would be awesome. Thanks.

You are all pieces of ****. Thank you, and I hope you die.

I have a question for *you*: Why this bass? If you don't know what the electronics configuration is, it makes me suspect you haven't played one. What about this bass has you wanting to spend money?

  3. I smell GAS.

Thanks for wasting my time dude. You've been a huge help.

  6. You want stuff - GAS = Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

It's a standard term used by musicians in online forums. Trying out stuff you have no idea about but just want to try. It's neither good nor bad, just expensive.

    BTW, nice attitude.

I said I have no idea about electronics, not once did I say "I have simply no ****ing clue about how this bass plays or feels, but I just want to get it anyways"

    Anyways, thanks douche bag.

  8. You forgot a comma.

Pickups (esp. stock) are almost always passive so this one is probably too. (The preamp is active)

Actually, I thought that was a valid question. You say know you want this bass but you don't even know if it's active or passive. Then without even getting it yet you're already talking about changing pickups to one specific brand because you like them and then you ask which ones to get. Well, if you like them then why don't you know which ones you like?

Though you clearly seem to disagree with this, I STRONGLY suspect Harry's response was intended to help you spend your money the best way possible, not to be a douchebag. However, I also suspect that calling people who try to offer the help you clearly NEED, even if it's not specifically the help you want, a douchebag qualifies one to be labeled a douchebag in most cases.

I see you're a VERY new member. Perhaps filling out your profile to include your age, experience, influences, gear you've had and loved, gear you've had and hated, reasons why you loved and hated them, etc., would help us TB douchebags provide you with the most accurate responses possible.

Anytime...I'm really glad I wasted my time and registered to this ****** ass forum site and try to find info out on a bass I really want to get, only to be put on ****ing trial by a bunch of dick heads. I simply asked 'Can someone help me with this bass?' and I get interrogated on why I want to instantly change the pick ups when I get it. Well here is my question: Why is it any of your guys' ****ing business? Is it so damn hard to help someone out with something? Are you incapable of just answering a question and then leaving it be? **** all you ********, and **** this website.

    *where's that popcorn-eating emoticon?*

pickups in that bass are passive. it's the preamp that's active.
EMG pickups that you want to put in there are active.
    happy?

  18. I think it is cute when they try to get indignant and insulting.

  19. Absolutley , but lets not make him cry by telling him this thread is probably in the wrong forum....

I always get a kick out of total noobs (10 posts so far, most of them insulting people who responded to his mis-placed thread) who admit they know nothing about electronics, then decide they need to change pickups before they have even laid hands on a new bass!

And of course, they can't be troubled to read the forum rules, or learn common terms buy reading a few posts.

OBVIOUSLY, they know much more about setting up that bass then the manufacturer did. And they get surly in amusing ways when people ask them why they have decided to make the change.

So - what was the BIG problem that he witnessed, analyzed, and needed to correct??? Oh yeah...wrong brand pickups. So why did he plan to buy a bass with the wrong pickups? Hopefully we'll never know.

Wrong forum? Wrong forum? I know nossing about zat...... (Walks away whistling idly...)
