I'm thinking about upgrading the passive electronics in a Jazz Bass. I'm looking for the best 250K audio taper pots money can buy! Smooth taper, with no jumps or dips in volume and tone. Fender? CTS? Clarostat? Others?

CTS is good quality. I used to manage that line at a major electronics distributor. Bourns is also great quality although they're mainly known for surface-mount trim pots.

You may also look at http://www.newark.com or http://www.digi-key.com

  3. We were using some pots in our lab that are about $40 a pop. I noticed that they have the same shaft size as most solid shaft pots I've seen on instruments. They would be pretty precise and all, but they take ten full rotations so I don't know how long it would take to be sick of all the turning.

I can check what brand they are. My buddy was building something for an ion implant system using the pots.... i'm not sure what though.

Bourns, Spectrol, Alps and Vishay. Try electronics wholsesalers in your area or look them up online and find a distributor.

I really like the CTS solid shaft pots that places like Guitarpartsresource carry. Use a nice SPrague orange drop for the cap and you will be in jazz bass tone hebbin.

You could go with a lot of super high end stuff, but the CTS is well made and easy to find.
