ELITE Flatwound

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by Rockin John, Oct 6, 2004.

  1. Just a word to say how good I think these strings are.

Whilst it's early days (first time ever for flats on a fretted) they seem to have all the properties I'm looking for.

The sound has the characteristic thump without being overbearing. The sustain is fairly short. The tension is about medium. They sound the closest to a Double Bass on a fretted electric that I think I've ever heard. There's a fair amount of middle and top to be had from them and, naturally, the bass end is excellent.

This is a 5 string set on a 5er USA DLX jazz. The low B isn't absolutely fantastic but, all in all, I'd say these strings are worth a shot. One of the biggest things I've noticed is how there seems to be more balance across the strings (volume and sound) than the stock 8250s and a set of 7250 rounds - both by Fender, of course.

I think Jazz players on an electric fretted might be pleased with these strings.

Like I said: early days yet but there's certainly much promise.

Time will be the ultimate judge, I guess.
