I'm picking up an original EMG P/J set for my MIM P Special. Can I run this into the stock Fender 9V preamp/eq or should I not even bother trying?

    Thanks all.

  2. The output impedance of the pickups will be even lower than what the preamp is used to seeing, so it will be fine. The only drawback is that when input impedance gets too high, things get noisy.

    Thanks line6man. Good news.

I have room for two 9V batteries. Would you do individual batteries for pickups and preamp or both batteries in parallel as a global 9V source?

    Thanks again!

  4. The current draw from those pickups should not exceed the hundreds-of-microAmps range. You don't need extra batteries.

Well I did and it all works, but I have no headroom. From halfway to full volume I have distortion sounding like a dead battery but the battery is fresh. EMG's without preamp is fine. Passive pickups with preamp is fine. EMG's + preamp = distortion. Ideas?

    Thanks again.

Does the Fender pre handle 18V? If it does you could wire two batteries in series.

The MIA one does, not sure about my MIM but I believe they are the same pre. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

I owe you a beer, Smilodon. :) 18V was the ticket, it sounds great!

    Much appreciated!

    No problem. :)

As strange as it may be, I don't drink beer. ;)
