Just looking for input. I have a fresh build almost done ;32" scale, hard maple neck and body, chambered body, Brazillian rosewood fret board, 18 volt active system, and medium gauge semi flat elixer strings is there a better choice than a set of emg pickups.

What is the 18 volt system in the bass? What kind of tone do you want?

What is it, active tone controls? Does it work with active pickups?

And what type of pickup were you looking for?

For controls it has two volume and 3 band eq. I have alway had an original Hagstrom pickup on my 67 Starfire, and it has been my only bass since 76. I'm thinking along the lines of single pole non humbucker. That is if that would work.

Oops sorry yes it is being with push pull, on/off switch for active or passive pickups.

What do you mean by "single pole non humbucker"? Did you mean a single-coil pickup in a jazz pickup shape?

SGD makes some sidewinders which might get close to that goal - single coil type sound, yet hum-cancelling. How important is "naturalness" of sound?

If that Hagstrom/Starfire sound is what you are looking for a similar sounding pickup can be made in EMG size cover. PM if you are interested.

The Hagstrom pickup is a single coil, and that's the same as the Hammon DarkStars.

So if you can get one, that would give you that tone.

Marko also makes those, as he said.

If you want a similar tone with no hum, both my neos and sidewinders would do. The neo is warmer and the sidewinder has a more extended top end.
