EMG Pickup wiring questions

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by jimbass55, Mar 30, 2002.

  1. I have just acquired a "Frankenstein P-bass" in a trade, and I have a couple of questions about the EMG pickup that is installed. This pickup seems to have a good tone, but I think that it is wired wrong. The tone knob is just like another volume. It also makes alot of noise if I rest my thumb on the pickup while playing. I know that I am not asking the right questions, so help me out here. I couldn't pass it up because it has a nice 78' Precision neck, a BADASS II bridge, and I think the pickup will be nice if I can get it wired correctly. PLEASE help a newbie. Thanks.

dumb question: does that EMG pup have a battery? :)

Either way, one of these diagrams should help...

That noise you get when resting your finger on the pickup
may be an indication of a bad or "intermittent" connection.
Best bet's to re-do the wiring. P-bass pup wiring (even active
    ones) is pretty straightforward.

Sounds like the bass is bad. You need to send it to me. :p

Just Kidding. notduane diagrams should solve the problem.

ALSO, if the the bridge ground is connected, you should remove it, EMG's don't require a bridge ground.
  4. I used the first diagram that has the battery. It works perfect, No buzzing, great tone, this thing is a real player. Thanks for all your help.
