i recently got a custom bass made by dunable guitars. i told the dude he could surprise me on whatever pickups he wanted and he selected 2 emg tbtx pickups. while i liked them it wasnt the sound i really go for. i shot emg a quick email asking about sizes/sounds/etc. 10 minutes later i get a call from freaking bobby vega who talks to me for 30 minutes about pickups in general, what he recomends for the sound i dig, and music in general.

i order some a tbp and tbj pickup and its spot on for the sound i want. since they are solderless it took less than 5 minutes to switch out pots and the pickups.

so im already impressed with the company as a whole and theyve pretty much made a customer for life. the builder utilzied a foam like material behind the pickups so when you screw them down it keeps the pickup pushed up but i really prefer the springs around the screws method. i go to home depot and some other shops but cant find the right size. i email EMG to try and find out the exact size so i can track some down. i receive an email 10 minutes later asking for my address so they can send me some springs free of charge.

customer service means a lot to me - it has made me sell off/avoid certain manufacturers (i.e. modulus) and has made me become a life long customer as well (i.e. aurora strings, fender) and now EMGs.

thought id share this with the group in case you are looking for some pickups :)

I don't like their active pickups, but EMG does have fantastic service. Always have!

Avoid Joe Barden if customer service is important to you though.
  3. Unrelated, but isn't it better to use rubber tubing than springs?

I've done surgical tubing before. Works great till you want to raise the pickups, then the tubing is so compressed that it'll never pop back out.

  6. I have found nothing that works better for me than old mouse pads, cut and layered to taste.

EMG has amazing customer service in my experience over the last 30 years dealing with them.

  8. That's how it's typically done, to prevent issues with vibration.

About 7 or 8 years ago I bought a set of EMG-JV vintage jazz pickups from some doosh on eBay; they were supposedly new but when I got them some idiot had filed down the edges of the mounting tabs on the pickups. They looked horrible; the seller was like, "Oh the looks of them don't matter, they work fine." Dick.

Anyhoo, I contacted EMG about possibly replacing the covers on the pickups. I was told this wasn't possible; there was no way to repair the pickups. Damn.

So, what does EMG do? They sent me a BRAND NEW SET OF PICKUPS for FREE?!?!!!!?!!!!!!!!! Hell, I didn't even buy the pickups from them, and didn't even buy them from a store! They were just used pickups that I bought off eBay. EMG didn't care...they sent me new free replacements for completely non-defective pickups that were disfigured by some dishonest bastard.

    Customer for life.
  12. emg freakin rules !! i have been an emg player for years.. both active and passive systems.. 7 of my 9 basses have full emg systems in them.. (the two that arent modified are due to them being rare and no longer made.. they will not be modded)

im proud and blessed to also a newly endorsed emg artist

EMG Pickups / Artists / Electric Guitar Pickups, Bass Guitar Pickups, Acoustic Guitar Pickups

(emg gear list on site is not everything i use.. but they are what is loaded in my main stage basses)

Very cool, Alexander! EMG's an excellent company, I was endorsing them last year for a little while, but then my contact left and I never heard from the new guy, so I assume I'm no longer doing it. But Im still very happy with their pickups and haven't switched them out or anything :D
