I was at southpaw guitars last year and played a used bass with EMG jazz pickups in it. When you order their active pickups, do you have to order preamps or anything else, or does the set come complete with all you need? This bass had (If I remember, three controls)

EMG's active pickups have a preamp inside of the pickup, so no you don't need any external electronics. You do however need somewhere to put a battery to power the pups.

the battery can fit under the pickguard if you dont already have a space for it. i wont say fit easily because it takes a little maneuvering to get it in there but you can do it. if you need to just cut a space for it or widen the area out a bit to fit it. the emg's you buy new will come with everything including the pots. the pre is inside of the pickup itself. the only thing i needed was new knobs because my stock ones werent one size fit all. new knobs can be had for 8 bucks on a set of two.
