I wanted to see what my two basses sounded like when recorded in identical ways. No pedals, no EQ, no amp. Just the bass, a cable, a mixer and a laptop my Yamaha has 45DC pickups, and my Schecter has one J40 and one p40

the results? very similar sound. The PJ is thicker in the lower end, and the DC has a bit more growl and character. Not sure which one is better. If I was starting over I'd probably would have bought dc40 pickups for the schecter, but i'm not unhappy at all with it.

which sound do you think is better?
  2. I like the DC's better

I think I agree. I get more compliments on the thickness of the P/J's, but I think the DC sit better in the mix

Judging from that clip the DCs sounds best. Seems to be clearer in the low end, but still just as clear overall.

So thanks! now i know what my next bass will have. :D

(Ok, so I may go for a DC/CS. The jury is still out. ;) )
