My high school English class is studing the epic poem the Oddessy at the moment. My teacher mad a huge assaignment that we have to have in in two weeks. It needs to be on a Greek god. I had to either draw something or write a song. I chose writing a song because my hands shake constantly (no clue why) and i cant draw. Im good at poetry, but a song doesnt seem to be coming to me. I was just wondering if anybody could possibly toss in a few lines to help me get going. Or suggest a method of starting songs. Im going for the slower, acoustic, Staind type song.
Write a song about Hermes... it doesn't matter what you write, it will be a good song. If you use any lines that someone on the board gives you, make sure you give them credit in your report.
I would do a song about Mars(well Mars is the Roman name, I don't remember the Greek name right now).
That would be Ares, and the Roman equivalent of Hermes is Mercury, but he's not half as cool as the original.
ooh i got a good idea, but its plagerism (sp?) the song "going blind" by Craig's Brother, that would be a perfect song about Aphrodite
Do you know which one of the gods/godesses you want to write the song about? If we knew that we could make better suggestions for you. Also what does the song have to deal with? I mean, does it have to tell a tale of the god/godess you're writing about, describe the god/godess, or what? That would help out as well.
i read the odyssey last year for my freshmen english class. sooo here are a couple of ideas for songs: write about some kind of journey. thats a major theme. another important aspect of the book is initiation/ rebirth. telemachus is becoming a young man able to take care of himself and odysseus is just returning to the world that he left years ago. write something along these lines, maybe about yourself or someone you know. also if i remember correctly, there is a part at the end where odysseus comes home to find the suitors in the house. on of the suitors really pisses him off, so before hanging him and cutting of his arms and legs, odysseus castrates him. you could make an interesting song from that. -nik
If I remember correctly doesn't Athena help Odysseus out along the way? I seem to remember alot about temples to Athena, him praying to her, and her visiting him and having conversations with him. I don't think Athena would be a bad choice for the song.
damn i feel so stupid... how about writing a song about poseidon, who is really pissed at odysseus throughout the book. isnt he one of the major reasons that oddyseus takes so long to get home? also his son is the cyclops. -nik
i am from greece i may can help you if you tell me 1st what god do you like and if you like it in greece or in englies but. I belive is good to wright about zeus its the king of the gods so you can easy wright somthing about him like 'he rules them all ,his the king of the god Zeus ,ect'
I have to write it. I thought about writing a cover of the Drop Kick Murphys song "Blood and Whiskey" about Zues but she said it had to be 100% original. I doubt a former flower child would have heard about the DKM but i would know. I would like to do it on Athena, Zues, or Posiden but Posiden was pretty evil in there and i want it to be more of a happy song. I had someone suggest: "Zues i lift your name on high" "Zues i love to sing your praises" "Im so glad you saved my life" "Im so glad you thought to save me" I figured that would be a one way ticket you know where and i think Mrs. Ramesy would see right through that one.
*sarcasm on* But I do love to sing Zeus' praises. And all those who disrespect him shall be smited with lightning. *sarcasm off* I would do it on Athena, I don't remember much of Zeus in there, but I do remember Athena. Here's how I'd do it in ballad form: "Wise Athena keeper of Athens the home of R.E.M. greatest band ever." I don't think you could get away with the last two lines, since it's not Athens, Georgia, and R.E.M. aren't in the Oddessy. And you may not think R.E.M. is the greatest band ever, so that could put a damper on it as well. *edited to correct my spelling of Zeus*
with all due respect to fellow greek mythology fans, stop spelling Zeus' name wrong. Everything else sounds really keen though... i say go with Athena.
why he was barely even envolved? i second the poseidon though and the tales of brave ulysses if you don't want to be completely original.
::To the tune of Old Time Religion:: Lets all worship Aphrodite She wears a see-though nightie And wears it up quite tight-y And it's good enough for me!! I've got about 30-40 pages of stupid verses for Old Time Religion, if you want I can e-mail you some of the better ones. Rock on Eric
