Anyone else here is or was an English major? Do/did you enjoy it? If you majored in English, what did you go on to do for a career? Does it have anything to do with the English field?

I was an English major. I post masterpieces on TB.

  5. Another English major here. It was helpful for getting a Library Science degree, much like a dulcimer is useful as kindling if you want to burn an Autoharp.

Well, I guess a good understanding of English can help you out when applying for McDonalds! :D

(Come on, someone had to say it) :bag:

  7. Clearly you've not been to California, Arizona, New Mexico or Texas lately.

Up until last October, you could have added Oklahoma to that list.

Why is it that they have the guy who speaks very limited english working the cash register and the caucasian teenager making the burritos? Seems backwards to me.

I'm not an English major, but my brother used to be an American petty officer 2nd class.

Good one, Bob....next time you're out here, we will need to hook up (I think The Funny Bone at the Beach has Open Mic night on Tuesdays). ;)

    Anyway-
B.A. in English Lit 1980...1986-1990, went back for a degree in Engineering Technology. FWIW, I write the most scathing e-mails in my department.

Marvell's "To His Coy Mistress" is a favourite. I like Dickens & Kafka is cool.

I still recall some girl reading Rimbaud's "Vowels" aloud in Freshman English class-
"A E I O U"...the sounds of sex when enounced in a 'short vowel' sound. Trust me, it sounded pretty hot.
    ...college is cool, huh-huh-huh.

Didn't Sylvester Stallone make a few films about Rimbaud? :bag:

BA in English, concentration in writing.

I was a newspaper reporter and editor (just a small step above working at McDonald's, really). I do Web design work now.

I don't remember anything about all the books I had to read- except for the Deerslayer, and all I remember about that is that it sucked.

  20. I'm currently taking my BA with a major in English. Will probably go on to get my MA in English too. If I am feeling particularly ambitious enough (i.e. unemployed long enough), I'll go for the PhD, too.

To be quite honest, I have no idea what I am going to do with my degree. :) But I'll figure it out.
