I've been playing bass for about a year, and I was thinking about getting a couple of effects, just for some variety......... Out of the following (all in my price range) which would u choose? :

    ENVELOPE FILTERS
    1. Guyatone BR-2 Bottom wah-rocker
    2. DOD FX 25B Envelope Filter

    and

    COMPRESSORS
    1. DOD FX84 Milk Box Compressor
    2. Marshall ED-1 Compressor
    3. Boss CS-3 Comression sustainer
    4. Boss LMB-3 limiter/enhancer

BTW I'm mainly into funk style playing, and just wanting a compressor to even out my slap/pop tone.

    Thanks a lot

I own the Guyatone BR-2, and it blows away the DOD FX 25B (I've only tried it in music stores). To me, the Guyatone sounds a lot like an EBS Bass IQ in the "Hi-Q" setting. Go Guyatone...

As for compressors, check out an Art Levelar. It seems like Art made these things for bass! I've been using one for quite a while in my live rig, and it works very well for "slap and pop" and just about any other playing style as well. Also, the Art Levelar is in the same price range as the other compressors you listed.

Good luck finding what you want/need...

Another vote for the ART Levelar, It's the best compressor I've used yet...and I got it for $79. I also have an EBS Bass-IQ and it is awesome...but it's $200...ouch.

Hey, I have a DOD bass compressor that I'd sell you cheap. Let me know if you're interested ([email protected]). As far as envelope filters go, the Electro Harmonix Bassballs is both reasonably priced and very fun to play through. A USA model is $10 more than the other one. I think the basic model goes for $79. As with all effects, check musictoyz.com and browse.
