Envelope Filter vs Wah pedal

    Pardon the noob question, but from a sound perspective, what's the diff between a Wah pedal and an envelope filter pedal (like the BassIQ)?

  2. Essentially they are both band pass filters, one is manually controlled, the other is "triggered" by the signal amplitude. (I assume you already kinda know that but...)

    Aside from that, and the subtleties of different makes and models, there's not a whole lot different about them.
     
  3. Also, the wah is a "moving" bandpass filter. It's the movement of the Q going in higher/lower frequencies that make the typical sound. The enveloppe filter has a static bandpass filter and the effect is altered by the dynamic: the louder the signal, the more effected your sound get.
