I had a chance to try one of these things at a music store in a nearby mall that pretty much exclusively sells ibanez and peavy when it comes to guitars and basses. Anyway, I saw a few Ibanez Ergodyne series basses in there, and out of curiosity, I asked to try it. I have to say that though it balanced well and felt okay, it's purpose didn't really fit it's design. What I mean is that the body was shaped in such a way to make slap/pop easy, but it was a tinny sounding bass and because of the tinniness, slap/pop sounded horrendous. My question is, why would a bass which looked like it was designed for slap/pop have such a rotten slap/pop sound? I'm not dissing the bass because it was quite comfortable and finger-plucking sounded pretty good on it, but why was it rotten with slap/pop when its shape is considered?

Ibanez' stock electronics are a weak affair. If you really liked it, you could drop in a new set of pups and a pre amp, and it'd be just spanky.
