I just changed strings from the Slowound (.032 - .130) to Slinkys in the same gauge. First of all, the B string didn't fit in my bridge at first. After continual cranking on the tuning peg, it squeezed into the slot. Second, these strings don't sound as good as brand new Slowounds. They remind me of D'Addario XL's with a little more zing. The B string isn't as clear as a new tapered Slowound either. Also, the overtones aren't as clear. I think the C string is a little warmer sounding on the Slinkys, however. But, next time I'm definitely going back to Slowounds.
Trying different brands is expensive. The Slinkys were $27 while Slowounds are ~$32.

  2. slinky's are great for metal, but suck ass for other types of music

  3. I've tried maybe 80% of all the strings out there, and for me, Slowounds Rule! I love the Slowound B, it's one of the best.
