I am going to try my hand at a @BassCliff style photo essay of a gig. Please do not expect the same level of expertise - @BassCliff has become very good at writing these, has way better photography skills, and plays way slicker venues. But I digress... Onwards!!!

First, the pre-gig meal. A lot of times when we play functions we get served dinner, but not at this particular gig. No matter, the same band played a gig this afternoon so I felt that I could treat myself to a Super Corned Beef Platter at the nearby Montreal Deli. I guess it was actually both a pre-gig AND post-gig meal.

Thus fortified, I drove across the street to the venue - a reasonably classy and well kept banquet hall complex. Did I mention my lack of photography skills?

We have a pretty simple set up, and pride ourselves on being ready to go in 15 minutes.

Here is a shot of the whole hall, with the folks who have hired us to play. They are currently eating dinner, but were a pretty lively bunch. We played two sets which was well over 3 hours of music. There were between 75 and 80 folks in total. They stayed to the bitter end, and even conservatively estimating there were never less than 50 people on the dance floor at any given time.

These may be some of the absolutely cleanest washrooms you will find in the Greater Toronto Area...

The load out. You have to use your imagination a bit, but our cars are parked within 20 feet of that door. No stairs, hallways, ramps, elevators, kitchens, or nothing. Load out was done in a record 10 minutes. All in all, a nice gig 30 minutes from home, and back at home well before midnight.

Hmmm... this was an older crowd, so some classic country/R&R/R&B:

    I fall to pieces
    Don't be cruel
All my loving (they really liked Beatles)
    Stand by me
    Red red wine
    A white sport coat
    Beautiful sunday
    Delilah
    Let's twist again
    Claudette

Etc... it's a bit of a blur - we don't use any kind of set list, and we almost never stop playing for more than about 5 seconds. Literally...

Wow, A white sport coat and a pink carnation, I've played those exact songs and used the Bose for the entire band ... easy setup up and tear down

I was sceptical about going with the Bose system, but it works incredibly well for us. Easy to use, easy to carry, and fills rooms that you would think it would never fill. I can't promise it would work as well for everybody, but for us it's nothing short of amazing.

We also played Hotline Bling - dressed it up as a latin/bossa/salsa groove. It went over quite well, although one woman figured out what it was we were doing and damn near collapsed on the dance floor in a fit of laughter...
