I tried it, thought it was a shell of the awesomeness that used to be the Fender Frank Bello Sig. Just didn't think it sounded anything amazing.

Fender's was a very resonant ultra "midrangey" (alder body instead of basswood) aerodyne Jazz Bass.
Why ultra midrangey? 'cause front Seymour Duncan quarter pound splitcoil always outdid bridge Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickup.

It sported a reliable Leo Quann's BadAssIII (stringthru himass bridge) and Schaller Ultralite machineheads.

Just dual volume, no tone control, for a powerful bass yet a proverbial "one trick pony"

Esp/Ltd was a Precision bass (alder with chunky maple neck, all satin finished much like a neckthru bass, which is not) with an EMG set of P/J "x" active pickups.
Yes: active pickups. For it's a passive electronic: volume/balance/tone.
The tone is way more aggressive and hifi at the very same time, while the weight and power make it a "man's world" Bass.

Ebony fingerboard with abalone blocks and bindings make it difficult to check where you actually are in an average "low lights stage situation"
