ESP TA-500 (Tom Araya) or Jackson CMG?

  1. Guys...

I'm confused as hell. I can't decide which of these I should upgrade to.

The TA-500 is an LTD version of Tom Araya's (Slayer) bass. I hear it's pretty damn good. He even uses it to play live sometimes.

But the Jackson CMG is pretty good too. I read a review about it in Guitar WORLD magazine...they said it was good for rock and roll, they didn't mention anything negative.

And I can't exactly run to the local store and try them out. I mean once I get some cash I can order them from the internet and try them out, and send 'em back if I don't like them.

    TA-500 Specs:

*I love that body style..right down the the inlays!*

    Jackson CMG:

    Maple Top
    Bold on maple neck
    Bound Rosewood fretboard
    34" Scale
    22 Jumbo Frets

for that price range, a lakland skyline, MTD, used warwick, g&l, or musicman will give you MUCH more for your money.

for those basses you're paying for the look, not necessarily the tone or the playability.

    and trans finish = transparent.

but of course, this is just IMO. forced to between the two, i'd choose the jackson, sell it, and buy a G&L L2000.

If I had to choose between both, I'd say the ESP TA-500. I am guessing that you're playing metal, right?

On a personal note, I'd rather get the B305-FM from ESP, as I've never really been a fan of sig models, and I've never tried the TA-500, but I'm guessing it sounds pretty nice.

    Here's a pic of the B305:

    And specs:

    Retail price: $799

    Neck-thru body
    34" Scale
    24 frets
    5 pc maple/walnut neck
    Rosewood fretboard
    Mahogany body w/flame maple top
    Gold satin hardware
    String thru body bridge
    EMG 40-HZ p/u's
  4. Hey man that's a nice looking bass ya got der!

I'm not sure about the 5 string thing though. I'm looking for a 4 string.

Do they have a 4 version?

why the sadowsky pups and pre? There's no reason for it, especially if you haven't heard either the spector or the sadowsky electronics, and I'm betting you haven't since you didn't know trans = transparent.

I think that you need to spend some good time with basses at your local dealer and see what you really like, then goto another dealer and try out more basses.
