Esperanza Jazz Festival

Discussion in 'Bass Humor & Gig Stories [BG]' started by Rafterman, Mar 13, 2002.

  1. Ok, just last weekend our school went to a jazz festival in Esperanza, CA.

Our jazz band performed the earliest, which sucked cuz there was barely anyone there to watch us!

    Anyway, I TORE IT UP!!!

My chops were blazin, and I was jsut doin' some hard groovin.

    We played 3 songs...

    The Chicken
    Coconut Champagne (a 'samba' tune)
and Birdland...(notice the bass player's influence on the lineup! :) ;) )...But seriously, our rhythm sections is killin'! But one problem the judges saw and heard was that "the bass player was too loud."

Which surprised me cuz our conductor told me that my volume was perfect...and the piano player who sat furthest from me on stage kept telling me to turn my volume up...????

I don't care, they DID say that they loved my licks and my TIME...which is very very important.

I got another gig this weekend at an auto show...Hoover High School and Crescenta Valley High School is gonna be there...i've heard that Hoover's jazz band is very good......we'll see..

    I can't wait!!!!
