Just a stab in the dark, but I recently received some un-budgeted cash due to a dealer selling an instrument out from under me, so for my next purchase my eyes have turned further... east. The far east, to be specific.

I was wondering if anyone here has played an Esraj. I have a background in Sitar, double bass (pizz., primarily, but some arco) and viola. Is this an avenue worth pursuing? I love the sound, but in my experience many Hindustani instruments are all but completely unplayable to westerners who don't have a master at hand to teach them (i.e. the Sarod.)
