Going to replace the pickups in the Essex. I play finger style and my basses have to be "jacks of all trades." I am looking for pickups that are warm, deep and bright. I am going the passive route and will be using a Samsamp. Any suggestions?

I just installed a Seymour Duncan Classic Stack in the neck position of my Essex JBass.

Dropped right in. (except the stock cover's too thick...SD's sending a correct cover for $5)

Oh, and beware of phase problems.

    Good luck!

I put Fender Custom Shop 60's pickups into my Essex Jazz. They work wonderfully, and I only had to route out the pickguard a little bit. (PS- even though it is nice, I am selling that bass if anyone is interested. :D)
