So I was digging around on Pirastros website and look what I found! It seems they have alternate (heavier) tension E strings for both the mittel and weich sets. Was anyone else aware of this / have you tried it?

Yes because those are the extension strings. They are used for C extensions and pirastros website doesn't make the distinction.

yep. For what its worth the medium E sounds awesome with the weich ADG. I personally didn't like the weich E and thought the full medium set worked fine. A spiro E with medium ADG is a decent mix.

I'm contemplating going with the Spirocore Medium E and the weich Evahs. Any thoughts?

I and many other people have done that. I thought the spiro was too bright for the evahs and didn't match. I like a consistent sound on my bass and found the spiro and evah too different. The evah light weak E was mostly a tension thing. The Evah medium E with evah weich ADG had the tension similar to a full spiro medium set. But what didn't work on my bass may work on yours.

Spiro growled too much in comparison to the Evah...oh, well!

    indeed. Try evah medium

  9. Try Innovation Braided. Similar to Evah Weich, but a stronger E.
